Let Denise Anderson Be Buried Next To Her Son
What kind of callous and uncaring country have we become that we would make the mom of a single and childless soldier have to apply just to be buried in the same plot as he is?!?! Then tell her that her request can’t be granted now because she is still alive and not in need of burial.
Corey Shea was an Army Spc. who died in Iraq on Nov. 12, 2008. He only had about a month left on his tour before he was coming home. Denise Anderson made the ultimate sacrifice for her country and lost her son to war. And now due to bureaucratic red tape we tell her that we can’t grant her request to be buried with him in Massachusetts National Cemetery. The law only allows spouses and dependents to be buried with the deceased soldier under the VA’s policy. However, as I mentioned Corey Shea was single and childless.
This is absolutely ridiculous to put this mom through this kind of hell. Thankfully Rep. Barney Frank and Sen. John Kerry think so also. They are pushing the Corey Shea Act to try to allow parents to be allowed to be buried with their children in the VA cemeteries. There are rules to go along with the Act, but it would definitely allow someone like Denise Anderson to be buried with her son. Something that should really not be questioned in the first place.
What a way for our government to treat the parent of a fallen soldier.
