Conan or Leno?
I like both Leno and Conan. I have watched both of them for a long time now. They both have their appeal and their own style of humor. But, I am team Conan all t
he way. It’s not that I don’t like Leno. I love headlines and Jay Walk Allstars. I love Kevin Eubanks too. But, Jay needs to hang it up and quit. I honestly think that he is the reason Conan on the Tonight Show has not done as well and I will tell you why.
Everyone was used to watching the news, Leno, and then maybe staying up late enough to watch Conan. Then when they moved Jay to the primetime slot it messed everyone up. Now when Jay comes on I just feel that it is later than it really is. You don’t have that other regular program before the news and then tune into the Tonight Show like you used to. Its not like Conan isn’t funny. That man is hilarious. I laugh out loud more in his show than anything else on at that time. But the point is now when he comes on and I have already watched Jay and the news I just feel that it is late and I go to bed. Before, I would always stay up and watch Jay and then try to grab part of Conan’s monologue. I think NBC has messed up peoples internal clocks.
My suggestion to NBC is this: Try taking the Leno show off the air and give Conan a shot without having Jay. I can almost guarantee that Conan’s ratings will go up because people will not have gotten any night time talk show beforehand. Give him a few months without Jay and if it don’t work then talk about doing the move. NBC messed up the programming, news, talk show paradigm, not these two guys. Put it back the way it was before and see how Conan does then.

I definitely agree! What I hate about this most…….is that Leno keeps saying that he was fired twice. He wasn’t fired the first time, he retired. And if you retired………then stay that way. And give Conan a chance.

Leno doesn’t have to “rehabilitate his image” for me as he wasn’t the ‘bad boy’ in this skirmish with O’Brien. NBC made the decision to move Leno back to his old broadcast time and O”Brien was given every chance to stay on and was compensated handsomely when he refused. Leno didn’t ‘kick anyone to the curb’—he did what he was told in order to keep his job.
