The Fox Came Back
Well that fox must live pretty close to our house in town. He came back this morning. This is the first time I have seen him again. Only this time he was basically chasing the trash truck.
It is Monday morning, and I am just getting ready to step out the door to head to work. I step out the door and then go back inside to grab my jacket because it is a little chilly. When I come back outside the trash truck had just moved down the road and was presently pulling up to my driveway to gather my trash. Being that I couldn’t leave yet I stopped and grabbed a cigarette and started smoking before heading over and getting in the truck. The next thing I hear is one of the trashmen talking about the fox. And I look and he is pointing over to my neighbor’s yard to the east of my house. As I get in the truck and look over at her yard I see the fox just standing there, in the full morning light, right in the middle of her front yard.
As the trash truck is pulling away from my driveway the fox starts over into my front yard. I just sit there watching him. I am assuming he was following the trash truck hoping for some scraps to fall out or something. He crosses my front yard right next to the door step. The next thing I know, not sure if he got spooked or what, but he leaps on top of the neighbors fence, which is about 4 feet high, lands on the top and then jumps down into their back yard and takes off behind their house.
I really wonder how many foxes are actually in Topeka, KS city limits. Some people I know just saw a fox and her babies in the middle of the football field at Washburn University, which is right in the middle of Topeka. A couple weeks ago I saw a lady hit a deer at about 5:30pm on 29th St. There was a large park area on one side of the road and a grocery store on the other. So many animals are moving into the city.
